Welcome to gingerNut, my name is Steph, I have always been drawn to food and felt most comfortable in the kitchen. I believe it all started from watching my Mum cook, she would also take me to local food markets, butchers and farm shops, I quickly fell in love with every aspect of the enjoyment food brings, and lived a blissful life of no dietary restrictions.
After a bout of ill health I discovered my body no longer wanted to digest dairy. So, I began adapting and creating my own dairy free cake recipes.
I was desperate to get back in the kitchen after working in retail and front of house to pursue a career in the food industry. I had a look around my home town in The New Forest and noticed the increase of coffee shops. The same year my Mum made me some Italian style biscotti biscuits as they were naturally dairy free. I wanted to make dairy free, vegan goodies under the title of gingerNut but everyone I ran the idea by physically turned their nose’s up at the idea of a cake without the two main components. QUE A Lightning bolt moment; why don’t I make biscotti biscuits to sell to cafes as everyone is on the coffee hype AND there’s bugger all dairy free options for sweet treats! Fan-fare please… New Forest Biscotti was Born.
A life changing year, my mum died in the May, three months after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. I threw myself in to work ( fabulous distraction from grief) and was even more determined to make New Forest Biscotti succeed with a personal goal of donating a percentage of profits to Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).*
Four years of business, built a micro biscotti empire, supplying local cafes, pubs and b&bs, attending markets and events. I also gained a few achievements under my belt; Winning gold at the Great taste awards 2011 for my Christmas spiced biscotti, Hampshire’s young entrepreneur award, featured on Sky’s a market kitchen with Mark Sargeant and published in BBC Good food magazine as a best buy in their Christmas edition. So I decided to put New Forest Biscotti up for sale in the August, and it continues to this day under the name Great British Biscotti Company. The downside to this flourishing story, after working with 32kg sacks of wheat flour every 24/7 – I developed a sensitisation to gluten – can you believe it!
I returned to working front of house in restaurants and I missed the self-employed life. Once again took to my local streets and saw there was an increased potential for me to start gingerNut. So I chose some of my favourite gluten and dairy free recipes, nicked my Dads decorating table, borrowed a friends gazebo and bribed an artistic friend to write signs, rocked up at the local market, sold out and the rest as they say is history!! I now have a fabulous following who support me at markets, on social media and supply to hand selected number of independent cafes.

Hi there. I bought my boy some gingerbread men and GF/DF brownie from your stall in Lymington on Saturday. Just wanted to say how tasty they are and how happy he is.
Enjoying your cake with morning coffee… Very nice indeed, will be back soon.
Thank you so much for the amazing free from cakes at Christchurch Food Festival today! It was so good to find something I could actually eat and enjoy In fact they were so delicious that I may have to come for another visit tomorrow!! YUM YUM! X
I bought your choc orange brownie from the market today – any chance of sharing the recipe or is it top secret?! It’s so good!!!! Also what days are you usually at the Winchester market?
Gingernut goodies are fantastic. I am gluten free and vegan and often find it impossible to buy a nice sweet treat for myself. All the treats I’ve tried have been absolutely delicious and Steph’s delightful service and enthusiasm for what she does comes across in her products. Steph’s cakes are just as glorious as she is.
Was very sceptical about gluten free as I’ve tasted some really awful stuff… but your carrot cake which I bought from Lymington Market today is absolutely delicious… well done I shall certainly be back for some more… Happy Xmas to you.
All I can say is… AMAZING!!!!!
11/10 WOULD MARRY
